Bairrada lies between Portugal's Atlantic coast and Caramulo and Bucaco Mountains to the east.
Proximity to the Atlantic means much cooler summer temperatures than would otherwise be the case.
These factors, together with Bairrada's northerly location, make it a great place to produce great
sparkling wine. Around 50% of Portuguese sparkling wines are made in the Bairrada region.
The indigenous grape valieties for this area are Baga, Arinto, and Bical. With Chardonnay
gaining popularity.
Examples of sparkling wine from the Bairrada region are:
Blanc de blanc Metodo Traditional(e.g. Filipa Pato 3B from www.ministryofdrinks.co.uk)
Bairrada Rose (e.g a Carlos Campolargo Brut Rose from www.aportugueseloveaffair.co.uk)
